German Sampler Series

The motifs used in this series were adapted from a 1769 German sampler from the collection of Theresa Racht, one of Arachne’s designers. Each design can be stitched on its own or in combination with any others. You can see how we combined these designs in First Prosperity Sampler and Second Prosperity Sampler below. But we encourage you to be creative and choose your own combinations. Join us in our exploration of the motifs of this wonderful needlework sampler!

First Prosperity Sampler

German Sampler Series 4

This is the first large sampler created from combining the smaller designs in the series. Both the acorn and the pomegranate are repeated throughout, and share a common meaning: prosperity.

Second Prosperity Sampler

German Sampler Series 8

This is the second large sampler in the series. Combining prior smaller designs, it includes pomegranates for prosperity, crowns for eternity and roosters announcing dawn and the rebirth of prosperity and hope.
